I’m a 9th grader!
And I feel really old now. Not that people who are in the ninth grade and above are old, but ever since I was a little girl I would look at 9th graders and 10th graders and think “Dear lord, those people are old! They should be in college or getting married!”
And now, I’m one of them. I never thought I’d be in the ninth grade. I always wished to be in it, since there’s nothing better than being the second senior-most class in school. I mean, you get all the respect without being sad because you’re leaving next year. It’s great, or at least I thought it would be.
What I didn’t realize is that being in the 9th grade means that I’ll have to work harder than before, and I can’t afford to procrastinate too much because the teachers teach faster – way faster and there are no more “fun” periods anymore, it’s just work, work and more work. There’s no more English Literature (noooooo!) or Tibetan (where non-Tibetans like me had free classes
) and our library hasn’t opened yet.
And then there’s our new Social Studies and EPH teacher. When I first came to class (I couldn’t go there for 2 days because I didn’t know school had started on the first and missed the school bus on the second) everyone said that he couldn’t really speak well because he had a ummm… I don’t know what you call it in English but in Nepali it’s called “totey boli”, it’s when people pronounce words like 5 year olds. Yeah, my friends were dead wrong about that. It was just that the guy didn’t know how to talk in English. And all our books (except Nepali, duh) are in English. So this guy who doesn’t know how to express himself in English, is trying to teach us from a book written entirely in English and no one understands what the hell he’s talking about. I’m not saying that I’m perfect in English, but I think if you’re going to be teaching us, you have to at least know the basics of the language. The class was quite hilarious actually, we’d give crazy definitions for words and he’d say, “Yas, yas. Bhyary nice.”
LOL! That’ll probably be the most fun class now! Yeah, we won’t understand a word in in there but it’s not like we passed in previous years by just listening in class, we’ve always read everything before an exam. It’ll be harder now, but gotta get ready for college, right?
